The future is .. Bitcoin?
Making a prediction that in the future, most people will have 1%+ of their assets is Bitcoin or Crypto.
I've always been fascinated by Bitcoin since I first found out about it. Magical internet money you can send anywhere? It was incredible.
In 2014, I even went to the 'North American Bitcoin Conference' which probably had around 50-100 people. I was lucky and did buy some bitcoin that I still own (not crazy amounts).
Over the next few years of crypto, things got a bit strange. I was never able to find Web3 products that solved a customer problem or had a real product so did not end up investing in any Blockchain or Web3 companies. I was not at all into JPEG monkeys. My background was in payments, but for most of the time, Bitcoin / crypto was not great as a payment rail. Stripe also had mixed results when they used crypto. They added Bitcoin payments, got rid of it, then added it back. Facebook for awhile also had a very large crypto effort that has since all been halted. The utility seems to be changing a bit with Stablecoins and more general acceptance of crypto - that it is likely here to stay.
As the next wave of crypto starts, there have been a few companies beyond Coinbase that have gained some traction, like Polymarket. I think the jury is still out on where things go, but it seems like a huge risk factor has been taken out with the new administration - likely they will be more favorable. I would not be surprised if in the future most investment advisors, as part of a 'standard' portfolio, put 1% of assets in Bitcoin or other types of crypto assets.
[Note: This is not investment advice, and I currently do not invest in crypto startups.]
